I'm Running Out of Time.

The title of this post makes me think of those emails you get from that Nigerian Prince you never met who needs your "asistanse" getting you that large inheritance from his independently wealthy uncle who just died and has no other heirs to give it to. (What?) And since those emails always have complete success, I'm only assuming the same thing will happen with this blog.

Anyway.

Time has been going by so fast lately.

I'm in a little bit of a routine. I don't really mind it. Because it's a good routine that keeps me busy and entertained. But it just seems like there are things I want to do, stories I want to write, accomplishments I want to make. And there's not enough time.

Sometimes I'm not sure if I want to speed things up and see what's in my future. Or if I want to slow things down and stop to smell the flowers. I guess I'm a little like that crazy bitch Jesse Spano when she took some stupid caffeine pills and started dancing around, singing The Pointer Sisters. "No time! Never any time!!!"

Maybe it's the time of year? School just started (not that it makes any difference to me), holidays are around the corner. The next couple of months are going to fly by, and before you know it, it'll be 2012.

Maybe it's my age? Everyone around me is starting (or continuing) to grow a family. They're doing special "parenty" events like taking their babies to the pumpkin patch and planning birthday parties and posting on Facebook about first teeth and first steps. Yeah. This kind of stuff bums my shit out.

Maybe it's my new job? Did I tell you about that? My new job? I'M GETTING PAID TO WRITE. Crazy shit, right? Anyway, I LOVE everything about my new job. Really, everything. But considering I'd been totally used to working from home for the past year (and by "working from home", I really mean blogging and watching The People's Court), I guess it's possible that actually GETTING UP and going INTO work might be making me feel like my days are slipping by, like the sands of time on the opening credits of Days of Our Lives.

Does this feeling ever slow down? Or have I reached a point of no return because I'm all old and shit and soon I'll be lecturing teenagers with anecdotes that start out with "When I was your age..."?

I don't really know where I'm going with this post. I just thought I'd share.

Oh- and mega thanks to those who commented on my last post about Kids: Yay or Nay? I'd still love to hear all of your thoughts on the topic, guys especially. There's no right or wrong answer, so don't worry, I'm not going to bash you for saying babies suck and they ruin everything.

Babies suck and ruin everything j/k but not really.

All of our friends have cute kids and we start thinking we want to have one together. Then yesterday I was on the bus (in the middle of my I'm over 30 so time is flying by me routine) and there was a screeching baby wildebeest beating on his mother and ruining my bus ride. Serious screeching. High pitched like worn out Ford brakes.

I have an 11-year-old who was such a good non-crying, giggling baby that I am SURE I won't get that lucky a second time.

Congrats on the new job, that's great. Where are you working (if you don't want to write it publicly, pm me).

If you think time goes fast now, just wait until kids...Seriously, one day they're a cute little blob and the next they're a crazy toddler getting into all kinds of messes!!

You know, I always think about that when I'm posting stuff about Josephine. I really like sharing stuff about her, and all four of her grandparents would SHANK me if I stopped, but I always feel bad for the people who are like, "this bums my shit out." Especially because it took me so log to have her and it bummed my shit out when my friends on facebook were like, "Oh, shit, we got knocked up. Guess we're having a baby!" Assbutts.

And, I think it has a lot to do with our age in that time flies faster now. I just realized that that HUGE chunk of time you were in Kindergarten through 12th grade? I have been out for the same number of years I have been in. And it felt like NOTHING. When I was in school, it felt like ten lifetimes. I guess we're old. :(

Oh, yeah, and the holidays. Definitely blame the holidays.

So dude. Time goes by way too fast; faster every day. I will yawn and roll over and it will be 2012 and I'll be doing the same thing all over again. I'm always thinking: I only get to ride this train once, so I should probably try to make it memorable. So far ... not so good. I'm working on it.

time is a blur. even on very grey, drizzle days that are spent staring at a wall. you would think it would feel like an eternity, but not when you are 36 and the ticking and tocking of the clock is louder. time is unforgiving and ruthless. justin and i were just talking about it. we are years older than you, miss young pants, and trust me i am already feeling like my love of knitting and cats is growing stronger with each second. i love you because you are impulsive and don't stick with things that aren't a good fit for you. that is healthy. i try to think about what you would do in certain situations.

about babies-my sister went through the same exact thing you are now. she didn't come to my baby shower and i completely understood. the time she had visited before Neko was pregnant with 6 kittens and trailing behind wherever she went. talk about rubbing it in. now she has Abe and benji.

if you want to see into your future there is a neon palm reader sign near bonnie's house. i'll look for a coupon in the pennysaver. or...you can hear it from me (for flea/ i mean free (we have a flea problem right now)), your future is super bright and cool. and i mean andy warhol bright and cool. i can hardly wait to buy euro trash onesies for your future baby.

it seems there is plenty of time for icky things in life, and not quite enough time for the fun, creative and energizing things in life. SIGH! but we do what we can i suppose! :)

and congrats on the new job! yay!

I always feel that time is flying by, and it's impossible to keep up with all the "shoulds" and all the "want tos" in addition to all the HAVE tos. I blame it on work. I like my job and my employer, but I can't help but view work as an interruption of the rest of my life.

Congrats on your new job. Writing for a magazine/publication or business type stuff?

Time is running away from me and no matter how much I chase after it, it feels like I'll never catch up. This is especially annoying when people are all, "you're only 25" and I feel like yelling, "YES I KNOW BUT I'LL WAKE UP AND I'LL BE 35 AND THEN WHAT?" because time just feels like it's moving that quickly.

So, yeah.

congrats on new job. that's my goal - to get paid for writing.

time keeps on slipping into the future. kids make it slip at an even faster rate.

Congratulations on that job! No wonder time is flying by!

congrats on the job but since I don't know you and this is the first post of read here I don't have a clue on how big of a deal it was. I do like your definition of working at home - using that definition I'm a work-a-holic.
Well kid, thinking about aging only comes to a stop once and then it's too late, so get used to it. I could go on about when I was your age but you probably stop reading by now.

I think it's probably the job that makes you feel like time is flying - I know that's how it is for me, since so much of your life is spent in an office it feels like your outside of work life is so short and flies by so fast!

Mmmm hmm. Yup. Yes. Totally.

This week, one year ago, I loaded up my car and drove across the country and I cannot BELIEVE it's been a year. How did that happen? I've been here a year?

Also: Being paid as a writer is a big damn deal and it feels BADASS. Pat yourself on the back, sister.

p.s. If we are the same person, let me know when you want to comiserate about going to baby showers. I went to one yesterday, and there were 3 pregnant women there and one tiny baby and it was all I could do to not cry about it. Instead, I had some more cheese biscuits and two cupcakes.

Eff.

Kids... when you're ready. I'm certainly not.

I dunno, it's s scary feeling when the days are slipping by but I love the feeling of really doing work.

Time is flying by! I seriously can't believe the year is almost over! I'm so glad you like your new job. When are you guys moving the office to woodland hills? We need to do happy hour soon. Btw-that saved by the bell episode was always my favorite to laugh at!
