I usually don't post this many enties in one week. And I usually try not to post about subjects that make me sound like I'm getting on my soap box. But this topic is something that really fucking bothers me and it really deserves all the coverage it can get.
Do you know who Kisha Curtis is? She's a heartless bitch who starved her puppy to near-death. And then threw him down the garbage chute so he could die in the trash. Just in case you think I'm exagerrating, click here to get the full story.
What the fuck is wrong with people that they think it's okay to abuse animals? This isn't an isolated case either. The SAME shelter that's nursing Patrick the wonderpup back to life is also working on a dog named Marvel who was impaled on a pole and left to die. Maybe if this country had stricter laws about it, there wouldn't be so many cases of animal cruelty. Abuse of an animal is still abuse and $1000 fine is NOT a fitting punishment for it.
This video show images of what Patrick looked like on the day he was discovered. It's sad and hard to watch. But he's getting better and stronger everyday and the hope that he'll pull through a be a great pet makes me want to help him.
He's making huge progress through the help of the Associated Humane Society, Popcorn Park Zoo, and donations from across the nation. I made a donation and you can too by going here. It doesn't have to be huge. And I know it's easy to say "I'd love to, but I'm broke" (and then proceed to meet with friends for drinks tonight). When I thought about donating $25 for a puppy who's been tortured his whole life and still has the will to live- or splurging on two extra cocktails- it was a no brainer.
Here's a video showing his latest progress:
As you can see, he's just a sweet, happy pup who's eager to learn about the world all around him.
I feel so bad for what he's had to endure. And I hope he makes a full recovery and becomes a great pet for a loving family.
And I hope his previous owner rots in hell.

Absolutely heartbreaking to watch, but at the same time, hopeful too. Glad to see that he's doing so well. Such a traumatizing experience for the pup!
a bigger deal should be made of this story and the woman needs to be punished beyond paying a fine. people that abuse animals are deplorable.
I have always been a huge animal freak--my mom is Dr. Freaking Dolittle--so all my charitable efforts and energy go into animals. My pets are always rescues. That said, people suck ass and I will always like animals more than I like most people. It sounds bad, but it's true.
We have a similar story here in that someone doused a cat with gas and lit it on fire. Thanks to donations and a lot of time, work and surgeries, months later he's finally up for adoption and semi-healed. WTF? People suck.
But people can also be amazing when it comes to rescues and support, so I try and keep that in mind. Sorry for the rant, but it obviously touches a nerve with me. It just keeps me determined to give a voice to these poor animals that the dickheads (try to) take away.
Rant over.
I can't watch those videos, I'll start bawling if I do. I completely agree that the punishment should be more severe for animal abuse. It's disgusting and it needs to stop. Some people have no heart. Combatting animal abuse is my favorite cause.
Animal cruelty seems to be a theme this week -- I keep reading about or hearing about animals being mistreated, and I can't help it -- it kills me. It bothers me more than people being abused bothers me, which is probably wrong, but maybe because domesticated animals are so helpless and dependent on humans. When a person takes advantage of that by doing something disgusting to an animal, I think that person should just be taken out. Like, blammo, goodbye forever, you are dead now. We have no need for people like that.
I just missed a step, tripped, and in turn, kicked my 14 pound dog down about 10 steps. He seems fine. I was in tears and I'm still shaking. This story is sickening.
This is exactly why every pet I've had since forever has been a rescue pet.
That woman needs to be put in a kennel and left out in the sun.
I looked at Ridley the whole time I read that article and my heart started hurting. I'll never understand people who do these things. People make fun of me all the time for loving my dog too much and I have no problem with it.
sad sad sad. Im not a huge pet person per say, but this is just so wrong.....
people who abuse animals are just plain fucked.
The pictures alone made me tear up-people are just sick. Stupid bitch.
I saw this, too. Signed a few petitions for Patrick.
His owner is one sick, heartless bitch. Another pittbull pup named Snoop was left to starve by his 19 or 20-year old male owner because he was "too expensive to feed".
I am a fan of Patrick on Facebook.
I only ever adopt rescue dogs and cats.
I feel sickened and FURIOUS with these stories, and it makes me love and appreciate and respect shelter workers more than ever, as they face this kind of awfulness every day.
I do what I can, I donate at least a few times a year, I volunteer with the shelter, and I usually ask for gifts to be donations.
But the laws do not do enough.
Thanks for speaking out about this.

Fucken people.
That is all.
People never cease to amaze me - and that goes for good and bad. Seriously cannot believe it. So glad to hear that pup is doing well! This is exactly why I work with my shelter to get these worthy rescues adopted.
I remember just a few months ago that lady in England was caught on camera casually putting a cat in a garbage can, closing the door, and walking away.
I mean killing is killing. Don't people feel bad for this? Where is that chunk in their head that tells them right from wrong?
hed
I made a donation just now.
When I think of someone doing something like that to Oly or Stella is makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. No dog deserves to have suffered through what Patrick went through.
I hope the owners rot in hell.
Aw. This made me tear up a little. I watched a bunch of other videos on YouTube. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to think of the kind of mind someone has to possess to treat an animal the way Patrick was treated. Someone that can do something like that to an animal is capable of doing that to another person. I hope she gets the maximum penalty.
Now I need to go hug my dog.
SUKI - yes, i agree. patrick was a lucky one and things look hopefull for him.
ABBY - i'm glad i touched a nerve. more people need to be sensitive to this issue.
ERIN - yes!! i feel worse for abused animals too. i think you hit the nail on the head that they just depend on us for everything, and to know that an owner can turn around and do such horrible things to them... it's sick.
DEBS - i love where you're going with this...
JUNKET - yeah, i'm the same with biscuit. she's like my kid and i'm okay that people think i'm a little cuckoo about it.
NIKO - yes. you don't have to be a cat lover or a dog lover or a whatever lover to recognize that abuse of a living creature is disgusting and sad.
STEPH - i LOVE that you only adopt shelter pets, i'm the same way. i don't understand people who purchase pets from breeders when there are so many WONDERFUL, LOYAL homeless pets who just want someone to love them. I.JUST.DON'T.GET.IT.
TRUDE - you're a great person for working to get those animals a home. shelter pets need all the love they can get.
HED - that's a great question. they're fucking sick.
ASHLEY - yay! i'm so glad you made a donation too!! i just hope that poor pup is strong enough to get his "forever home" soon.
CAKE - i hope they create some new laws soon to make harsher penalties for assholes like patrick's owner. it's disgusting what they get away with.
Ummm....your blog rocks. Can I officially stalk you online now? Please? What...too soon?
